The Truth About Sugar

There are many things you can do for your health. One of those things is managing your diet for optimal digestive health. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has recommended including Prebiotics and Probiotics. These can be found in certain foods, and one does not have to solely rely on dietary supplements.  Consuming them from their food sources first is best because they are more readily available for absorption and digestion.

Prebiotics:
  • These are natural, non-digestible food ingredients that help promote helpful bacteria in your intestinal tract. They help improve gastrointestinal health and improve calcium absorption.

Probiotics:
  • These are the actual “good bacteria” also referable to as live cultures. These bacteria aid in repopulating and balancing the bacteria in your gut. Additionally, this functional component works to boost immunity and overall health.
  • Some probiotics have been used to treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), lactose intolerance, and more. However effects vary from person to person.

Addition of Prebiotics and Probiotics into your diet:
  • Prebiotics have fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS). Some examples of these are inulin and galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS). Specific foods that contain these components are bananas, onions, garlic, leeks, asparagus, artichokes, soybeans, and whole-wheat foods.
  • Probiotics can be found in fermented dairy foods like yogurts, aged cheeses and foods that include live cultures. Other non-dairy foods that include live cultures are kimchi, sauerkraut, miso, tempeh and soy beverages.

Why do they work well together?

Prebiotics make it easier for probiotics to establish themselves in the gastrointestinal system. Food products that combine these two things together are called synbiotics. An example of this would be putting bananas on top of your yogurt. Check food labels when buying groceries to include both prebiotics and probiotics in your diet. Many labels will preclude to this by stating “nutrition boosters” or “promotes a healthy digestive system”.

Remember that lifestyle changes take time and you will want to start off slow when changing your diet. Your body may take some time to adjust to your new food intake and eating schedule.

Health Care and Independence Day 2019

Americans are preparing to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday with a full weekend of activities. Much of that will include getting together with family and friends for backyard cookouts, fireworks displays, and special events sponsored by local communities and other civic entities. There will be ballgames and events with the national anthem played and sung, and flyovers by military aircraft to honor the country's heritage and national pride. Countless homes across the nation will fly the U.S. flag on their front porch, and the country will be flush with displays of red, white, and blue.

However, in all this national display of patriotism, let us not forget the true meaning of what our liberty represents as the land of the free and the home of the brave. Americans have a rich history of freedom defended both at home and abroad, going back 243 years to our founding colonial roots. Beginning with the initial struggle against Great Britain by the colonists in the 1770's, following with a long war for independence, a second onslaught by British troops and their monarchy to topple the young America in the early 1800's, a long and bloody Civil War in the 1860's that pitted family against family that created a split between North and South and resulted in the deaths of over 600,000 men and women on our own soil (finally culminating in a resolution bringing all Americans together again--though with lasting effects to today), more conflicts with Mexico, Spain, and other nations through the end of the 1800's, two major World Wars in the 20th century--not to mention other major conflicts in Korea, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East which still are in turmoil today--Americans have given the ultimate sacrifice for liberty and freedom. Those events must ever be forefront in the national conscience when the July 4th Holiday is celebrated.

Less we forget, there are hundreds of books and media sources that outline the events and catastrophic loss of life and property for each of the epic struggles for liberty. A website that shows casualties by conflict for the Revolutionary War ishttp://www.revolutionarywararchives.org/warstats.html . One source for casualties in the Civil War alone can be found at http://www.civilwarhome.com/casualties.htm , and another site for overall casualties from all major conflicts can be seen athttp://www.history.navy.mil/library/online/american%20war%20casualty.htm . Needless to say, America has lost many of its best and brightest to maintain liberty.

Many who served in those military endeavors died from disease and inadequate health care, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries. Health care has always been an issue during times of both peace and war. However, it is not a right but a privilege. Americans have certain inalienable rights as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. Certainly freedom of choice is a key ingredient for establishing life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. When the national government attempts to legislate or mandate regulations that are detrimental to the safety of its citizens and its own welfare, Americans must take a stand to let their elected representatives and politicians that enough is enough. Freedom to choose your health care provider is key to your own personal and moral freedom. Freedom to purchase or not purchase your own health insurance is key to your financial freedom. Nationalized health care is not constitutional, nor does it represent any freedoms based upon our history as Americans.

When you consider how much blood, toil, energy, and sacrifice has taken place since 1776, remember the picture of George Washington kneeling in the snow at Valley Forge. Although it is a painting, it represents our American heritage of reliance on "Providence", as Washington often referred to a higher spiritual being. Although there has been some controversy about his personal religious beliefs, Washington was known as a morally righteous man, and a defender of faith and liberty. He knew that a fledgling nation would not survive unless its dependence was upon God and not on its own merits. The concept of religious freedom was then and is now paramount to our central core as a people, and from that basis stems all other freedoms Americans hold dear. It is the cornerstone on which all other freedoms are based because it focuses on the knowledge that without dependence on God, there is no liberty or freedom.

This quintessential holiday has been venerated as a time to step back and revel in all that is America--Land of the Free, Home of the Brave. How marvelous is it that our country is still "one nation, under God, one, and indivisible." During the hot summer of 1776, when representatives from the 13 colonies stood resolute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and put their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor all on the line, the country was bracing for war with England. When the last of 56 signatures were penned on the Declaration of Independence, those men announced to a waiting public, and to the world, that Americans were a free and independent people. Watch this video clip from the HBO miniseries "John Adams" of the vote to pass this document, this American Scripture: https://lnkd.in/ewxHvQi . Listen, as the Declaration is read aloud. Yet, with divine Providence, the nation survived intact and won its freedom against seemingly impossible, insurmountable odds. Today we celebrate again this good news, in spite of current criticisms. This national Holiday represents all that is good about our nation.

America's true history has been largely ignored in much of the media today. Unfortunately, too much focus is based on fireworks and fun times, going to the beach or on vacation, and taking advantage of the big holiday sales events. Too little attention is focused on our heritage as a Christian nation, our memories of those who sacrificed life, liberty and their sacred honor to defend America, and the reasons Americans enjoy freedom and liberty. This weekend, take time to remember our liberty, our nation, our history as Americans, and then enjoy your country with new found respect and honor. Fly the U.S. flag at your home, sing the national anthem with gusto, and say a prayer of thanks to God that you live in a nation that provides freedom and liberty. If you know someone who has served in the military, tell them you appreciate their service. When you go to church, tell those around you that the Fourth of July should be honored with true Christian service and humility. Send your Congressman a note or call his/her office and encourage them to stand up for freedom and liberty.

Remember. It's your country. Enjoy liberty and freedom. Most of all, keep it free.

Texting Ergonomics: Reduce Wrist, Hand, and Thumb Pain

Is your main mode of communication with others done through texting? Then you may be risk for “texting thumb” or thumb arthritis. Thumb Arthritis is caused by constriction of the flexor tendon in the thumb. It often reveals itself as painful popping or snapping when the thumb bends or straightens; it may even become locked in the curled position. The most common cause of texting thumb is due to repetitive griping motions such as texting or holding a smart phone. Thumb arthritis is specific to the carpometacarpal joint where the thumb and wrist connect. Gripping, or forceful pinching motions are often the source of these symptoms and can become more severe with excessive use.

The elbow can also suffer from increased tension in the tunnel through which the ulnar nerve passes. When in the elbow, this is referred to as Cubital tunnel syndrome. Spending too much time holding your phone to your ear, resting your elbow on a desk, or keeping your arm bent at an acute angle to use your mouse all contribute to cubital tunnel syndrome. Symptoms include numbness or tingling in the ring and small finger and soreness on the inside of the elbow or forearm.

Texting Ergonomics:
  • Keep messages brief. The more keystrokes you do the more strain you’re causing on your hands and thumbs.
  • Use word prediction or auto complete.
  • Choose a device that has a full keyboard (you want reduce the number of times you tap a key to select a letter).
  • Use shortcuts opposed to scrolling.
  • Use a neutral grip when holding a device. This is best represented by a straight wrist that is not bent in either direction.
  • Maintain an upright position while texting. Do not bend your head down or round your shoulders.
  • Rest your thumb by alternating it with your index finger.

Specifics for touch screens:
  • Use device in a vertical position while typing. This will reduce the amount of reaching space your thumb does to press a key.
  • Use the pads of your fingers instead of the tips of your nails. Using your nails can create an awkward bent position for your thumb.

Severe cases treatments:
  • Cortisone injections- eliminate pain and restore mobility.
  • Thumb carpometacarpal arthroplasty- A surgical procedure to release the pulley at the base of the thumb will free the tendon to move more easily.
  • Splints

Cubital tunnel syndrome prevention:
  • Use a pad to rest your elbow on.
  • Avoid pressure on the back of the elbow.
  • Sleep in a splint the keeps your elbow from bending too much.
  • Avoid position that keep your elbow flexed for extended periods of time.
  • In severe cases a surgery can be performed to relieve the pressure off the nerve, improving symptoms, and preventing risk of permanent nerve damage to the hand.

What is consumer-directed coverage?

Consumer-directed health plans allow individuals and families to have greater control over their health care, including when and how they access care, what types of care they receive, and how much they spend on health care services. The major types of consumer-directed coverage are:
  • Health savings accounts, usually coupled with high-deductible health plans.
  • Health reimbursement arrangements.
  • Flexible spending arrangements.
  • Archer Medical Savings Accounts.

Health Savings Accounts

A health savings account is a type of medical savings account that allows you to save money to pay for current and future medical expenses on a tax-free basis. In order to be eligible for a health savings account, you must be covered by a high-deductible plan, not have any other health insurance (including Medicare), and not be claimed as a dependent on someone else's tax return.
You can use this account to pay for your qualified health expenses, including expenses that the plan ordinarily doesn't cover, such as eyeglasses and hearing aids. Expenses paid out of the HSA that are eligible expenses under your high-deductible health plan will count toward the plan's deductible.
During the year, you can make voluntary contributions to your health savings account using before-tax dollars. In some cases, employers may set up and help fund health savings accounts for their employees. A health savings account earns interest. If you have a balance in your health savings account at the end of the year, it will "roll over," allowing you to build up a cushion against future health expenses. A health savings account allows you to accumulate funds and retain them when you change plans or retire.

High-deductible Health Plans

High-deductible health plans that can be used with health savings accounts are now being offered by many insurers. As of 2007, individuals contributing to a health savings account must be covered by a health plan with an annual deductible of not less than $1,100 for self-only coverage and $2,200 for family coverage. The deductible generally applies to all expenses, including prescriptions and doctor office visits, but in some cases, preventive care does not count toward meeting the deductible. However, most plans will cover preventive services, such as routine office visits, before you have met your deductible.
Under a high-deductible plan, out-of-pocket expenses in 2007 cannot exceed $5,500 for self-only coverage and $11,000 for family coverage. These dollar amounts are adjusted annually to account for inflation, and they include deductibles, copays, and other amounts, but not premiums.
After the deductible has been met, some plans will have a coinsurance of 10 to 15 percent of expenses but only up to the out-of-pocket limit in the plan. After you meet the out-of-pocket limit, the plan will pay 100 percent of expenses. Other plans will pay 100 percent after the deductible has been met.
Some insurers have negotiated discounted prices with participating physicians and hospitals, resulting in substantial savings to consumers who purchase high-deductible health plans. If you are considering this type of coverage, be sure to inquire about discounted prices.

Health Reimbursement Arrangements

Health reimbursement arrangements may be established by employers to pay employees' medical expenses. A health reimbursement arrangement must be set up by an employer on behalf of its employees, and only the employer can contribute to it. The employer decides how much money to put in a health reimbursement arrangement, and the employee can withdraw funds from the account to cover allowed expenses. Health reimbursement arrangements often are established in conjunction with a high-deductible health plan, but they can be paired with any type of health plan or used as a stand-alone account.
Federal law allows employers to determine whether employees can carry over all or a portion of unspent funds from year to year. Also, employers can decide whether account balances will be forfeited if an employee leaves the job or changes health plans.

Flexible Spending Arrangements

Flexible spending arrangements are set up by employers to allow employees to set aside pre-tax money to pay for qualified medical expenses during the year. Only employers may set up an account, and employers may or may not contribute to the account. Also, there may be a limit on the amount that employers and employees can contribute to a health flexible spending arrangement.
Health flexible spending arrangements can be offered in conjunction with any type of health insurance plan, or they can be offered on a stand-alone basis. In the past, health flexible spending arrangements were subject to a use-it-or-lose-it rule. Now, employers may give employees a 2-½ month grace period at the end of the plan year to use up funds in the account. After that time, remaining funds from the previous plan year are forfeited. If you have a flexible health spending arrangement, you should try to anticipate your health care expenses for the coming year to avoid losing any money that you contribute and don't spend.

Archer Medical Savings Accounts

Archer Medical Savings Accounts are individual accounts that may be set up by self-employed individuals and those who work for small businesses (less than 50 employees). To set up an Archer medical savings account, you must be covered by a high-deductible health plan. Either the employee or the employer may contribute to an Archer account, but both cannot contribute to the account in the same year. Individuals control the use of funds in Archer medical savings accounts and can withdraw funds for qualified medical expenses. You can roll over funds from year to year, and balances in Archer medical savings accounts are portable. This means you can take them with you when you change jobs or retire.

Why do you need health insurance?

As medical care advances and treatments increase, health care costs also increase. The purpose of health insurance is to help you pay for care. It protects you and your family financially in the event of an unexpected serious illness or injury that could be very expensive. In addition, you are more likely to get routine and preventive care if you have health insurance.
You need health insurance because you cannot predict what your medical bills will be. In some years, your costs may be low. In other years, you may have very high medical expenses. If you have health insurance, you will have peace of mind in knowing that you are protected from most of these costs. You should not wait until you or a family member becomes seriously ill to try to purchase health insurance.
We also know that there is a link between having health insurance and getting better health care. Research shows that people with health insurance are more likely to have a regular doctor and to get care when they need it.

best way to weight loss

) Drink a glass of water before every meal. It fills you up so you don't over eat. Also drink a glass of cold water every morning - Your body burns calories by cooling down the water to make it useful to your body.

2) Eat slowly - It takes your brain 20 minutes to realize you're full, so if you eat fast, you'll overeat.

3) Never crash diet. Don't go under 1200 calories a day. It'll slow your metabolism down, and you won't be able to receive all the nutrients you need in a day. And once you do start eating normally again, you'll regain all the weight you lost immediately. Instead, take it slow and steady.

4) Don't be a lazy bum. Do jumping jacks while watching TV, run laps around the coffee table - Just try to keep yourself moving.

5) Immediately after eating, pop a piece of cinnamon or mint gum in your mouth so you don't feel the urge to keep picking at your food.

6) And don't beat yourself up if you had a bad day! Listen to your body - If you want something, have it! Just always remember to keep it in moderation. But don't deprive yourself, or you won't get ANYWHERE.

7) Leave a couple bites left on your plate when eating. You can save calories by not eating every last bite.

8) Substitute "diet" foods for regular foods - Skim milk for whole, low-fat cheese for full-fat cheese, light bread over regular bread, reduced calorie yogurt over regular yogurt, Splenda for sugar, etc.

medifast programe for weight loss
I have been through it all and know what's it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can't be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I've worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.

Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.

First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can't eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising...

This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it's good for the heart.

However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It's so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I've found a great addition to help any one out, it's a natural weight loss supplement called Proactol. Now don't get all crazy on me and say diet pills don't work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn't meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It's an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder. I saved money on the pills at theweightlossplace dot com along with getting some good info. It basically makes those fingers not go towards the cookie jar. For me it's the best pill I've tried and I've tried cupboards full. Now this doesn't mean you have to follow my foot steps but I've successfully lost roughly 70 pounds and keeping it off til this day.

Well good luck and remember what I said, Dedicate.

salt and vinegar chips

salt and vinegar chips are the worst thing that you can eat for a sore throat. First of all, chips are very scratchy. Second of all, salt and vinegar chips are very acidic. The acid in the chips (caused by the vinegar and other artificial ingredients) might feel good going down on a sore throat because of the "numbing effect" but later, when the burn kicks in, it will do more harm then good.

For a sore throat, drink tea with honey and lemon. Gargle with warm salt water. Spray some Chloraseptic Maximum Strength With Coating Protection on your throat, and then get a good night's sleep. Try popsicles or ice cream, Jello and similar foods for your sore throat, and not scratchy things like chips.

Menstrual Cramps

Cramps can occur like a week or so before you get your period (in some cases 2up to 2 weeks before).
You can also get slight cramping about halfway through your cycle, when ovulating I think.

women period and travel

Well the best advice I can give you, is to go for the sanitary pads that have the most absorption power, for example night pads. Try as often as you can to change it though because it starts to feel a bit uncomfortable, but there isn't much else you can do.
I don't know how heavy or what the manner of your periods are, but when I do exercise it tends to be lighter! Hopefully that will happen to you
It is going to be very, very hard without tampons! But before I wore tampons, my flow was always very, very, very heavy, and I was on the cross- country team! So I used Stayfree Maxi Overnight Protection. It really helps, and you don't feel wet like you do when wearing Always pads. So I would recommend this. But maybe you want to try tampons tonight? Tampax Pearl (super) is handy

reduce breast size naturally

There is no way to target which area of the body you lose fat from.

I would reccommend cardio excerice (running, jogging, aerobics etc...) as weight training can build up her pectoral muscles, making her breasts appear larger.

Your breasts are made up of two kinds of fat. The first is the fat that determines your breast size... your hormones decide how much of this there is. The second is excess fat carried by your body. Excercise will help her lose the 2nd kind, but not the 1st. The good news is, that the breasts are often one of the first places you lose fat from (if it's the 2nd type)

She could also purchase minimising bra's to make them appear smaller.

support a person in the hospital with cancer

People with cancer want to feel normal. We end up reassuring everyone else that we're OK and that sucks.
Just visit and talk about normal stuff, not hospitals and diseases unless they bring it up. Some folks like to tell you what they are going through and then get back to normal stuff like the World Series and new movies and politics and LIFE
A simple card, expressing your care and concern is appropriate. Tell them that they are in your prayers. If you have any pictures of them from a happier time you can include that too. When my mom was in the hospital with cancer the cards with honest, genuine love were the ones that meant the mos

How does health insurance work in the US

In truth, health insurance works a little differently in each state
Rarely do they cover all the bills. Most often, patients pay a pre-negotiated portion - either a set dollar amount of a copay or a percentage.
4. In a perfect world, only doctors and their patients would have say over what treatments are performed. But, since this is by far NOT a perfect world, the insurance companies have the say. The patient doesn't get to choose the more expensive treatment - and the ONLY way it would be covered was if the patient and their doctor(s) can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that by the insurance shelling out more money up front (in the form of the treatment) they would, in fact, save money in the long run - by not having to pay for complications or repeat proecdures.

If the patient ops to "top up" the treatment, they better have deep pockets because they'll probably end up paying for most, if not all of it.
